The holy Prophet Elijah was one of the greatest prophets in the Old Testament and has been especially revered in the Orthodox church, most likely due to numerous connections to him in the New Testament. For example, both the Savior and St. John the Baptist are compared to Elijah. Also, it is Elijah and Moses who appear with the Savior during the Transfiguration.
